Frequently asked questions
The QR code photo album, the audio and video guest book and the disposable camera app: answers, with the exact numbers.
Choosing
What does Film 36 offer?
Three separate products. The QR code photo album, where guests add photos and videos from their own phones. The audio and video guest book, where they leave you a message with their voice or face. And the iPhone disposable camera app: 36 shots per guest, developed the next morning. The album and the guest book work alone or together, on the same QR code.
Album, guest book, pack or camera app: which one do I need?
For every photo your guests take, the album (€49, free up to 100 photos). For their voices, the guest book (from €19.90). For both, the pack (from €59). And if you’d like a game of 36 shots per guest, the app, free for up to 10 guests.
Do I need an iPhone to set it up?
Not for the album and the guest book: you set them up in any browser, on a computer or a phone, at app.film36.app. Yes for the disposable camera app, which needs an iPhone on iOS 17 or later. Either way, your guests don’t need an iPhone.
Why a QR code instead of a WhatsApp group?
In a WhatsApp group photos arrive shrunk, videos get compressed, and everything is mixed in with the chat. With the album every file arrives in original quality, in one place, and you download it all in one click.
Do I still need to rent a rotary phone for the guest book?
No. Guests record from their own phones, all at once, with no line at the handset. A rented phone runs about $249 to $400 for a weekend before shipping and deposit (checked October 1, 2026). If you love the look, keep a vintage phone as a prop: the guest book does the recording.
Does it replace the photographer?
No, and it isn’t meant to. Your photographer shoots the portraits, the ceremony, the polished images. Your guests bring back everything else: what happens at the tables and on the dance floor, where the photographer wasn’t.
Pricing and payment
How much does it cost?
The album is free up to 100 photos, then €49 for the complete album. The guest book is €19.90 for one format (voice or video) and €24.90 for both. The album and guest book pack is €59, or €64 with voice and video. The app is free for up to 10 guests, then €19.99.
Is it a one-time payment or a subscription?
A one-time payment, for one wedding. Nothing renews and nothing is charged afterwards. Prices are in euros, taxes included, with no shipping, no deposit and no per-guest fee.
What does the free album include, and what happens when it’s full?
The same album and QR code, capped at 100 photos (no videos), with the upload window open 30 days after the wedding. When the 100 photos are reached, uploads stop; the complete album reopens them straight away, and the photos already in stay visible and downloadable.
Can I pay later, or add the guest book after the album?
Yes. You can create the album, try it as a guest, and only pay when you need it. If you buy the album and then the guest book (or the other way round) you only pay the difference, so the total is the pack price, €59.
Can I get a refund?
The complete album and the guest book start as soon as you pay. Before paying you tick a box asking for the service to start right away and giving up your 14-day right of withdrawal (article L221-28 of the French Consumer Code). If the service doesn’t work as promised, write to us: we’ll find a fix or refund you. The app is bought on the App Store, and Apple handles its refunds.
How does payment work?
On a secure Stripe page, by card or the other payment methods it offers. Film 36 never sees your card details. The receipt and invoice arrive by email.
Do my guests pay anything?
No, never. They scan, type a first name and add their photos or their message. No app, no account, no payment.
Guests
Do guests need an app or an account?
No. The QR code opens a page in their phone’s browser, on iPhone or Android. A first name is enough: no email address, no password.
How do guests open the album?
With the QR code on the poster and table cards, which you print from the couple’s space, or with the link you send by WhatsApp, text or email. The same QR code opens the album and the guest book.
Will my guests actually scan it?
They scan when they’re told to. Put the poster at the entrance and a card on every table, say a sentence at dessert, and send the link in the wedding group chat for anyone who wasn’t there.
What if the venue has no signal?
For photos, the upload pauses and resumes on its own when the signal returns, from where it stopped: the guest just keeps the page open. For the guest book, the message is stored on the phone first and sends itself as soon as the signal is back, even if the page was closed.
Can guests upload after the wedding?
Yes, as long as the upload window is open: 30 days after the wedding for the free album, 12 months for the complete album and the guest book. The link works from anywhere, for a cousin abroad or a guest who couldn’t come.
What about guests without a smartphone?
For the guest book, set a tablet at the entrance or the bar: that’s the kiosk, with a 4-digit code to exit it. Guests record one after another. For photos, someone at their table can add theirs.
How many guests can take part?
The album has no guest cap: what counts is the number of photos (100 on the free plan) and the storage (50 GB for the complete album). The app takes up to 10 guests for free, 1,000 with Unlimited party.
Photos and videos
Do photos keep their original quality?
Yes. Files are kept exactly as the guest sent them, with no compression or editing. Only the thumbnails shown in the gallery are reduced.
Is there a limit on photos, videos or file size?
Free: 100 photos, no videos, up to 50 MB per file. Complete album: no limit on count, 50 GB in total, 1 GB per file and 5 minutes per video. These caps are in writing: we never say “unlimited” without a number.
Can we show the photos live on the day?
Yes, even on the free album. The full-screen slideshow shows photos as the night goes on, with the QR code in a corner so late arrivals can join in; you set how long each photo stays up.
Can I hide or delete a photo?
Yes. You can hide or delete anything, and you can ask to approve each upload before it appears. Each guest can also delete their own photos.
Who sees what in the album?
You decide what guests see: the whole gallery, only their own photos, or only your favorites. You see everything. A 4-digit access code can be added to the link.
Can we download everything at once?
Yes, with “Download everything”: a ZIP of every photo and video, in original quality. You can also download a selection.
Can I change how the album looks?
Yes: five styles (Ivory, Love Letter, Gold Leaf, Black Tie, Film), a name, a cover photo and a welcome note. They’re all included, on every plan.
How do I print the poster and table cards?
From the Print section of the couple’s space: an A4 poster PDF and an A6 table-card PDF (four per page), with your QR code and your names, ready to print at home or at a print shop.
Audio and video guest book
How does a guest leave a message?
They scan the QR code, type a first name, tap “Voice message” or “Video message”, speak after the beep, listen back and send. For shy guests, a message idea appears and changes with a tap.
How many messages, and how long can each be?
Up to 500 messages of 2 minutes each. You can record a 30-second welcome message: guests play it with one tap, and nothing ever plays on its own.
Audio, video or both: what’s the price difference?
One format, voice or video: €19.90. Both: €24.90. In the pack with the album: €59 for one format, €64 for both.
What if there’s no signal in the room?
The message is stored on the guest’s phone first, then sends itself as soon as the signal is back: in the car, at the hotel, or on their next visit to the page. They don’t have to do anything.
Who can hear the messages?
You, by default. Guests are told before they record that only the couple will listen. You can choose to share the messages with your guests or play them on the slideshow, but only if you decide to.
How do we get the messages afterwards?
In your space, “Play all” runs them one after another like turning pages, and each message downloads as an ordinary file named after the date, the time and the guest. You can download them all at once.
How long can guests record for?
For 12 months, with the same QR code or link: a guest who couldn’t be there on the day can leave a message from home, before or after the wedding.
The disposable camera app
What is the app for, compared with the album?
It’s a game: every guest gets 36 shots on their phone, with no preview, and everything develops the next morning at 10 AM. The album, on the other hand, collects the photos your guests have already taken. They’re separate and they complement each other.
Can we see the photos during the party?
No, nobody can, not even the two of you. The server enforces it, not just the app. You only see how many photos have been taken. Everything develops the next morning at 10 AM.
Do my guests have to install the app?
On iPhone the app does better: higher quality and background uploads. On Android, or for anyone who doesn’t want to install anything, it all works in the browser, from the link or the QR code.
Where do guests enter the wedding code?
In the app, or on the “Join a wedding” page at film36.app. The QR code on the table card does the same thing without typing.
What happens when a guest’s 36 shots are used up?
The camera closes for them, even if the party goes on. All that’s left is to enjoy the night and wait for the next morning.
Can we choose a film look for the photos, and change it after the wedding?
Yes, but only for yourselves. Your guests see and receive their photos exactly as they were taken, with no filter. You, the couple, choose at home, on your phone, Normal (no filter) or one of seven films: Velours 400, Riviera 200, Jardin 400, Diapo 64, Disco 200, Cobalt 100 or Argent 100. The look applies to your preview and to saving to your photo library; you can change it at any time, and the originals are never altered.
How long are the app’s photos kept?
7 days after developing on the free plan, 90 days with Unlimited party. After that they’re deleted automatically, so save the ones you want to keep.
Privacy
Who can see the photos and messages?
The couple see everything. Each guest sees what you’ve chosen to show them. Guest book messages are heard only by you, unless you decide to share them.
Where are the photos stored?
In the European Union, with Supabase. No trackers and no ads: nothing is resold or used to train artificial intelligence.
Who owns the photos and messages?
The people who took or recorded them. By uploading, each person lets Film 36 store them and show them to the album’s members, only to run the service.
Can I delete a photo, a message or the whole album?
Yes. You can hide or delete any upload; each guest can delete their own; and in Settings you can delete your account, with your albums and all their files.
After the wedding
How long is everything kept?
The free album 30 days after the wedding; the complete album and the guest book 12 months, from the wedding date or the purchase date, whichever is later. Each album shows its end date. For the app: 7 or 90 days.
What happens when the time is up?
We email whoever created the album 7 days and again 2 days before the end date. On that date the album and all its files are deleted for good: Film 36 can’t restore them.
How do I keep my photos for good?
Use “Download everything” before the end date: a ZIP of it all in original quality, to keep on your computer or in your cloud. For the guest book, each message is a file you can copy or burn.
